วัดบันไดหิน สร้างขึ้นในสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช สิ่งก่อสร้างในวัด มีวิหาร ซึ่งเหลือแต่ผนังเพียงสองด้าน มีประตูหน้าต่างวงโค้งแหลมคล้ายกลีบบัว ซึ่งเป็นที่นิยมในสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช และเจดีย์เหลี่ยมย่อมุม ที่ได้รับการบูรณะจากกรมศิลปากรแล้ว โบราณวัตถุส่วนใหญ่ที่พบภายในเขตโบราณสถานแห่งนี้ก็มักจัดอยู่ในสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย ดังนั้นโบราณสถานวัดบันไดหินจึงอาจสร้างขึ้นช่วงใดช่วงหนึ่งระหว่างปี พ.ศ. ๒๒๐๙ – ๒๒๓๑ หรือราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ ๒๓
โบราณสถานวัดบันไดหินตั้งอยู่ในเขตพื้นที่ตำบลท่าหิน อำเภอเมืองลพบุรี ทางทิศเหนือติดกับ เขตพื้นที่สถานีรถไฟลพบุรี ทิศตะวันออกติดกับรางรถไฟ ทิศใต้ติดกับบ้านเรือนประชาชน ทิศตะวันตกติดหัวมุมถนนนาสารปราการ
