วัดภูเขาทอง อยุธยา
วัดภูเขาทอง เป็นวัดโบราณในจังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา สันนิษฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นในรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระราเมศวร เมื่อ พ.ศ. 1930 มีเจดีย์ใหญ่ที่ชื่อว่า เจดีย์ภูเขาทอง
เจดีย์ภูเขาทอง เป็นเจดีย์ที่สูงใหญ่ มีความสูงประมาณ 90 เมตร ตั้งอยู่กลางทุ่งนาซึ่งสามารถใช้สังเกตเห็นศัตรูได้แต่ไกล เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2112 พระเจ้าบุเรงนองแห่งเมืองหงสาวดีได้ยกทัพเข้ามาตีกรุงศรีอยุธยาได้สำเร็จ จึงได้สร้างพระเจดีย์ใหญ่แบบมอญขึ้นไว้เป็นอนุสรณ์ที่วัดนี้ ในรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมโกศ ได้ทำการปฏิสังขรณ์องค์เจดีย์ใหม่ เปลี่ยนรูปจากเจดีย์มอญเป็นรูปเจดีย์ย่อไม้สิบสองที่กำลังนิยมอยู่ในขณะนั้น ส่วนฐานนั้นเป็นคงศิลปะมอญ
กรมโยธาธิการและผังเมืองได้ร่วมกับกรมศิลปากรจัดสร้างพระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์สมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราชทรงม้าไว้บริเวณด้านหน้าวัดภูเขาทอง ในบริเวณใกล้เคียงกันกับพระราชานุสาวรีย์สมเด็จพระสุริโยทัยที่กรมโยธาธิการฯ ได้สร้างไว้ก่อนหน้า เชื่อกันว่าบริเวณนี้เดิมเป็นทุ่งโล่งที่มีการตั้งทัพข้าศึก และเกิดการทำการยุทธหัตถีในหลายครั้งหลายสมัย
