วัดไชยวัฒนาราม
วัดไชยวัฒนาราม หรือ วัดชัยวัฒนาราม เป็นวัดเก่าแก่สมัยอยุธยาตอนปลายในจังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา ตั้งอยู่ที่ ตำบลบ้านป้อม อำเภอพระนครศรีอยุธยา จังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา บริเวณริมฝั่งแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ทางฝั่งตะวันตกนอกเกาะเมือง วัดไชยวัฒนาราม ถือเป็นอีกหนึ่งสถานที่สำคัญของกรุงศรีอยุธยา
วัดไชยวัฒนารามเป็นวัดสร้างขึ้นในสมัยสมเด็จพระเจ้าปราสาททอง พ.ศ. 2173 โดยเดิมบริเวณที่ตั้งของวัดแห่งนี้เคยเป็นที่อยู่ของพระราชมารดาที่ได้สิ้นพระชนม์ไปก่อนที่พระเจ้าปราสาททองได้เสวยราชสมบัติเป็นพระมหากษัตริย์ เมื่อพระองค์ได้เสวยราชสมบัติ พระองค์จึงได้สร้างวัดไชยวัฒนารามขึ้นเพื่ออุทิศผลบุญนี้ให้กับพระราชมารดาของพระองค์ แต่ สมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพทรงสันนิษฐานว่าวัดนี้สร้างขึ้นเพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์แห่งชัยชนะเหนือนครละแวกโดยจำลองแบบมาจากปราสาทนครวัด
วัดไชยวัฒนารามเป็นวัดหลวงที่บำเพ็ญพระราชกุศลของพระมหากษัตริย์สืบต่อมาหลังจากนั้นทุกพระองค์ จึงได้รับการปฏิสังขรณ์สืบต่อมาทุกรัชสมัย เป็นสถานที่ถวายพระเพลิงศพพระบรมวงศานุวงศ์เกือบทุกพระองค์ สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวบรมโกศสวรรคตก็ได้ถวายพระเพลิงที่วัดนี้
ก่อนกรุงแตก พ.ศ. 2310 วัดไชยวัฒนารามถูกแปลงเป็นค่ายตั้งรับศึก หลังการเสียกรุงศรีอยุธยาครั้งที่สอง วัดไชยวัฒนารามได้ถูกปล่อยทิ้งให้ร้างเรื่อยมา บางครั้งมีผู้ร้ายเข้าไปลักลอบขุดหาสมบัติ เศียรพระพุทธรูปถูกตัดขโมย มีการรื้ออิฐที่พระอุโบสถ และกำแพงวัดไปขาย แต่ในปี พ.ศ. 2530 กรมศิลปากรจึงได้เข้ามาอนุรักษ์จนแล้วเสร็จในปี พ.ศ. 2535
