กรุงศรีอยุธยา อาณาจักรที่ยิ่งใหญ่ของไทย [2] วัดพระราม
วัดพระราม
วัดพระราม เป็นวัดที่ตั้งอยู่นอกเขต พระราชวัง ทางด้านทิศตะวันออก ตำบลประตูชัย อำเภอพระนครศรีอยุธยา (กรุงเก่า) จังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา ตรงข้ามกับวิหารพระมงคลบพิตร วัดพระราม คาดว่าสร้างขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 1912 ในรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระราเมศวร ซึ่งเป็นบริเวณที่ถวายพระเพลิงพระบรมศพสมเด็จพระรามาธิบดีที่ 1 (พระเจ้าอู่ทอง) พระราชบิดา แต่พระองค์ทรงครองราชย์ได้เพียงแค่ปีเดียว จึงเข้าใจกันว่าสมเด็จพระบรมราชาธิราชที่ 1 ทรงได้ช่วยสร้างจนสำเร็จหรืออาจสร้างเสร็จเมื่อสมเด็จพระราเมศวรเสวยราชย์ครั้งที่ 2 ก็เป็นไปได้
บริเวณหน้าวัดพระรามคือ บึงพระราม ปัจจุบันซากปรักหักพังภายในวัดเหลือเพียงแต่ เสาในพระอุโบสถ วิหาร 7 หลัง กำแพงด้านหนึ่ง และที่สำคัญคือพระปรางค์ ซึ่งเป็นพระปรางค์ทรงขอมโบราณขนาดใหญ่ ภายในมีจิตรกรรมฝาผนังทั้งสองด้าน เป็นภาพพระพุทธเจ้าประทับนั่งปางมารวิชัยบนบัลลังก์ สีที่ใช้เป็นสีแดง คราม เหลืองและดำ เป็นภาพจิตรกรรมยุคอยุธยาตอนต้น ปัจจุบันลบเลือนไปมาก
พระปรางค์
พระปรางค์องค์ใหญ่ ตั้งอยู่บนฐานสี่เหลี่ยม สูงแหลมขึ้นไปด้านบน ทางด้านทิศตะวันออก มีพระปรางค์องค์ขนาดกลาง ส่วนทางตะวันตกทำเป็นซุ้มประตู มีบันไดสูงจากฐานขึ้นไปทั้งสองข้าง ที่มุมปรางค์ประกอบด้วยรูปสัตว์หิมพานต์ มีปรางค์ขนาดเล็กตั้งอยู่ทางทิศเหนือและใต้ รอบ ๆ ปรางค์เล็กมีเจดีย์ล้อมรอบอีก 4 ด้าน
นอกจากนี้ยังมีเจดีย์เล็กบ้าง ใหญ่บ้างอยู่รอบ ๆ องค์พระปรางค์ประมาณ 28 องค์ วัดพระรามนี้เป็นที่น่าสังเกต คือ กำแพงวัดพระรามด้านเหนือ มีแนวเหลื่อมกันอยู่ กำแพงด้านตะวันออก ตะวันตก และด้านใต้ มีซุ้มประตูค่อนไปทางทิศตะวันตกได้ระดับกับมุมระเบียงด้านตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของปรางค์ ส่วนแนวเหลื่อมนั้นได้ระดับกับมุมระเบียงตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของปรางค์ ไม่มีซุ้มประตู คล้ายเจตนาสร้างไว้เพื่อประสงค์อะไรอย่างหนึ่ง
