วัดมหาธาตุ (จังหวัดสุโขทัย)
วัดมหาธาตุ เป็นโบราณสถานที่มีความสำคัญในฐานะวัดมหาธาตุ ซึ่งเป็นพระอารามหลวงในเขตพระราชวังราชธานีสุโขทัยในอดีต ปัจจุบันตั้งอยู่บริเวณศูนย์กลางอุทยานประวัติศาสตร์สุโขทัย ตำบลเมืองเก่า อำเภอเมืองสุโขทัย จังหวัดสุโขทัย
วัดมหาธาตุเป็นวัดที่มีขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในเมือง สร้างขึ้นในช่วงพุทธศตวรรษที่ 18 หรือสมัยสุโขทัยตอนต้น ในศิลาจารึกพ่อขุนรามคำแหง พุทธศักราช 1835 (หลักที่ 1 ด้านที่ 2 บรรทัดที่ 23–26) ได้ระบุถึงอารามดังกล่าวว่า "กลางเมืองสุโขทัยนี้ มีพิหาร มีพระพุทธรูปอันราม" ซึ่งหมายถึงวิหารหลวงทางด้านทิศตะวันออกของเจดีย์ประธานเคยเป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปสำริดแบบสุโขทัย หน้าตักกว้าง 6.25 เมตร พระมหาธรรมราชาลิไทได้โปรดฯ ให้หล่อขึ้นและทำการฉลองเมื่อ พ.ศ. 1904
วัดมหาธาตุ ยังมีองค์ประกอบสำคัญคือเจดีย์มหาธาตุและเจดีย์บริวารทรงปรางค์จำนวน 8 องค์ซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็นเจดีย์ประจำด้าน (ทิศ) ได้อิทธิพลจากศิลปะขอมและมีลวดลายปูนปั้นแบบอิทธิพลศิลปะลังกา ส่วนเจดีย์ประจำมุมทั้งสี่เป็นเจดีย์ทรงปราสาทห้ายอดได้อิทธิพลของศิลปะพุกาม-หริภุญไชย-ล้านนา ถือเป็นหนึ่งในตัวอย่างเจดีย์ทรงปราสาทแบบสุโขทัยแท้ที่หลงเหลือในสภาพสมบูรณ์ที่สุดแห่งหนึ่ง
วัดมหาธาตุได้รับการประกาศขึ้นทำเบียนโบราณสถาน ในราชกิจจานุเบกษาเล่ม 52 ตอนที่ 75 วันที่ 8 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2478

กลุ่มโบราณสถานพื้นที่บริเวณวัดกว้าง ยาว ด้านละ 200 เมตร มีพระเจดีย์มหาธาตุรูปดอกบัวตูมหรือพุ่มข้าวบิณฑ์เป็นหลักของวัด ภายในรายรอบไปด้วยเจดีย์แบบต่าง ๆ ฐานวิหาร ฐานโบสถ์ และซุ้มคูหาพระพุทธรูป ประกอบด้วย
เจดีย์มหาธาตุ เป็นเจดีย์ประธานตั้งอยู่กลางวัด ลักษณะรูปทรงแบบดอกบัวตูมหรือพุ่มข้าวบิณฑ์ ตั้งอยู่บนชั้นแว่นฟ้า 3 ชั้น รอบฐานชั้นล่างสุดมีปูนปั้นรูปพระสาวกเดินพนมมือโดยรอบ ขนาดของฐานเจดีย์ กว้างยาวด้านละ 27 เมตร สูง 29 เมตร บนฐานอันเดียวกันโดยรอบมีปรางค์ 4 องค์ ตั้งอยู่ด้านหน้าเจดีย์ทั้ง 4 ทิศ และบริเวณที่มุม ทั้ง 4 ทิศ มีเจดีย์ทรงปราสาทแบบศรีวิชัยผสมลังกา 4 องค์ ตั้งอยู่เป็นเจดีย์บริวารของเจดีย์ประธาน มีเจดีย์รายจำนวน 200 องค์
ฐานวิหาร ขนาดต่าง ๆ กัน 10 แห่ง ได้แก่ วิหารพระศรีศากยมุนี ตั้งอยู่ด้านหน้า หรือตะวันออกของเจดีย์พระมหาธาตุ ซุ้มคูหา จำนวน 8 ซุ้ม ฐานโบสถ์ ตั้งอยู่ด้านเหนือของเจดีย์มหาธาตุ กว้าง 14 เมตร ยาว 25 เมตร ก่อด้วยอิฐ สระน้ำ 4 สระ ตั้งอยู่ทางทิศเหนือและทิศตะวันตก และมีกำแพงแก้ว ก่อด้วยอิฐ ล้อมรอบบริเวณวัดทั้ง 4 ด้าน กว้างยาวด้านละ 200 เมตร
